Railway Safety

The Railway Safety Book was compiled with the aim of increasing understanding, awareness, and implementation of safety practices in the railway transportation system in Indonesia. The main targets include regulators, operators, academics, researchers, and the general public. This book comprehensively describes various aspects of railway safety, including basic principles such as risk prevention, risk management, system reliability, and the urgency of implementing the Railway Safety Management System (SMKP) by all railway operators in Indonesia.

 

Analysis of railway accident data for the period 2018-2023 shows that most incidents were caused by inadequate infrastructure and facilities, although there is a tendency for the number of incidents to decrease from year to year. The book also highlights the role of modern technology, such as automatic signaling systems, Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), as important instruments in improving safety.

 

Furthermore, the competence of human resources (HR) in the railway sector, the implementation of inspections and periodic maintenance of facilities and infrastructure, and the systematic application of risk management, are identified as crucial elements in supporting safe and reliable railway operations. This book also emphasizes the importance of a safety culture and cross-institutional collaboration involving all stakeholders. Thus, safety is established as the main foundation in the development of a sustainable and reliable railway system.
