Reactivation of 4 Railroads in West Java, Cibatu-Garut the Fastest
16 April 2019Liputan6.com, Bandung - Reactivation or reopening four railway lines in West Java, which was announced by the central government with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) at the end of last year, experienced different progress. PT KAI's Managing Director, Edi Sukmoro, admitted that the four-way reactivation process, namely Cibatu-Garut, Rancaekek-Tanjungsari, Banjar-Pangandaran and Bandung-Ciwidey, had to be taken slowly.
"Each has stages, there are mapping, surveys and calculations," Edi said when he was met after attending the inauguration of the air-conditioned locomotive at the Bandung Station on Saturday (04/06/2019). Edi said, not a few lines that would be reopened were damaged. In addition, some of the rails are used by the community, such as being on agricultural land, settlements and others. So, he said, there needs to be active socialization with the community to re-open the route. "So this is still on the way, hopefully it will continue to develop," he said.
Cibatu-Garut Line Ready for 2019
Meanwhile, Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 2 Bandung, Joni Martinus said, the most significant development of rail reactivation was Cibatu-Garut. "At this time, the development of Cibatu-Garut. For reimbursement of unloading costs, the cost of replacing buildings and the issuance of hardening of the tire body of the railroad, the progress has been very fast," he said.
While the other three lines, namely Rancaekek-Tanjungsari, Banjar-Pangandaran and Bandung-Ciwidey are still in the form of maping stages. PT KAI, he said, targets the reactivation of Cibatu-Garut railroad to be completed later this year. "For the Cibatu-Garut, hopefully 2019 can already operate. Yesterday Mr. Kadaops said, we are targeting Cibatu to Wanaraja, that September we plan to start operating," he said.
According to Joni, reactivation of the railroad is very potential for the development of the East and southeast Priangan region, as well as the southern region of West Java.
"We expect the support of all parties so that this government program to revive dead lanes, becomes new access to advance the economy. As well as moving the flow of goods and passengers, it will be faster, of course, which has an impact on improving the economy," he said.
