INKA Train Technology Has Not Been Reliable, Observer: R & D Must Be Strengthened
15 April 2019Bisnis.com, JAKARTA - Observers assess that currently PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero) or INKA needs to improve research and development in the field of self-propelled train production.
Chairman of the Railway Transportation Forum of the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI) Aditya Dwi Laksana said that INKA's current capabilities are still not reliable in producing self-driven trains. Previously, INKA had produced Ciliwung Blue Line KRL and Indonesian Diesel Rail (KRDI).
However, it is proven that INKA's quality is currently not reliable enough. Only now has Railink Airport Railway been using INKA, but it is still a collaboration with Bombardier from Germany.
"If you want to use your own product, INKA must accelerate the technology transfer process and strengthen research and development," Aditya said, Thursday (04/11/2019).
He added, the government must accelerate the process so that INKA can immediately produce its own driven train. Thus, the needs of trains in the country can be fulfilled.
According to him, the purchase of used trains from Japan, as long as it is still feasible, is used more efficiently than having to buy new production. In terms of price, new products are clearly more expensive.
"The solution is to combine train product purchases from Japan. When INKA is ready for about 3-4 years, it provides an opportunity to participate in the production," he said.
