INKA and KCI are starting to seriously discuss train bookings

15 April 2019

Bisnis.com, JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api (Persero) or INKA claimed to be ready to receive train orders from PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) and start discussing this year.

GM INKA Corporate Secretary Puguh Dwi Tjahjono said, technically his party had readiness to accept the order. The Soekarno-Hatta Airport train products can be used as an initial reference.

"This initial phase is only exploratory and agreed on the specification. The team from INKA and KCI will determine the expected standard specifications," Puguh said to Business on Thursday (04/11/2019).

He added, the KCI train order project is likely to be the first unit produced at the Banyuwangi Workshop. However, the target number of initial orders or unit shipments has not been discussed further.

Nevertheless, Puguh is optimistic that the price offered by INKA is more competitive compared to the production of other countries. Moreover, there will be several components that use local raw materials.

On the other hand, safety, comfort and reliability standards will be discussed together between the KCI and INKA teams. Previously, KCI Technical Director John Roberto will initiate the purchase of a new production train starting in 2021.

This year, KCI plans to start the initiation by talking to producers from Japan and PT Kereta Api (Persero). On the other hand, INKA is currently unable to produce trains according to KCI's needs.

If INKA cannot produce trains, he continued, KCI will negotiate with manufacturers in Japan. However, the treatment side and the provision of local component contents will be submitted to INKA, as a form of technology transfer.
