01 Januari 2019

Jakarta (31/12) The Government, through the Directorate General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation, has again raised the amount of subsidies for Public Service Obligations for economy class train services for 2019.

This increase was marked by the signing of a PSO contract between the Directorate General of Railways and PT KAI (Persero) which took place on 31 December 2018 at Gambir Station.

The signing was carried out by Zulfikri as Director General of Railways and Edi Sukmoro as Chief Director of PT. KAI (Persero).

The range of the increase in PSO for 2019 is 4.5% from 2018. Earlier in 2018 ± Rp. 2.3 trillion rose to ± Rp. 2.4 trillion.

The allocation of 2019 PSO funds also changes compared to the 2018 PSO. In 2018 there were still eight long-distance economic trains that received PSOs, but in 2019 there were only three long-distance economic trains that obtained PSOs namely KA Kahuripan, KA Bengawan , and Sritanjung Train. While the other 5 trains were transferred to non PSO Economy Train. And for Urban Railways there are additional 2 trains that switch from pioneer trains to trains that receive PSO subsidies namely Siliwangi and Jenggala trains.

For this 2019 PSO, the Government focuses on providing subsidies for commuter trains. The amount of PSO subsidies for 2019 is allocated for commuter trains amounting to ± Rp 1.3 trillion. Of the 936 commuter train trips in 2018, in 2019 PSO subsidies for commuter trains rose to 956 train trips. This is also in line with the target of increasing commuter train passengers to 1.2 million passengers in 2019 which will use commuter trains for daily mobility.

In addition to commuter trains, from ± Rp 2.4 trillion in subsidies for the PSO in 2019, subsidies are also provided for intercity trains and urban trains. For inter-city trains the allocation of PSO subsidies consists of: Distance Economy Train of ± Rp. 79.9 Billion, Medium Distance Economy Train of ± 244.4 Billion and Lebaran Train of ± Rp. 2 Billion. Whereas for urban trains consist of: Close Distance Economy Train of ± IDR 640 Billion and Economic KRDE of ± IDR 88 Billion.

The government hopes that by increasing the amount of the PSO subsidy in 2019, PT. KAI (Persero) as an operator can improve the quality and innovation of economy-class train and commuter services in accordance with established service standards so that the allocated PSO funds can be utilized as optimally as possible. besides that it can increase the desire of the community to use the train as a mode of transportation by the community, it is hoped that the people in the future will want to switch to using railroad transportation modes, when traveling from and to their destination.
