Good News, Jogja-Solo Prameks Train Will Be Replaced by Electric Train

27 Juni 2020

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The operation of an electric rail train or KRL that connects Jogja-Solo is just a matter of days. The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) is continuing to complete the construction of the electric power grid (LAA) poles along the railroad tracks.

In the Klaten Regency, the pole for LAA has even been built since the beginning of 2020. During this time, passenger mobility on the Jogja-Solo route has been served by Prambanan Ekspres (Prameks) trains. Reporting from Antara, Saturday (6/27/2020), the Ministry of Transportation ensured that the Jogja-Solo relation KRL will soon operate along with the electrification construction that is almost complete. "We are building electrification from Jogja to Solo. We will gradually operate it," said Director General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation Zulfikri in Solo.

He said infrastructure development for the KRL itself had begun last year. It is planned that KRL operations will be carried out in stages. According to the plan, at the beginning of October 2020, KRL will be able to serve trips from Yogyakarta to Klaten, and by the end of the year it is targeted to have reached Solo.

"Maybe Jogja-Klaten first in early October, then the end of the Jogja-Solo year," he said. He said later the KRL will replace Prameks train which has been serving the Solo-Yogyakarta route. However, the KRL transport capacity will be higher than that of Prameks. "There are 10 train sets (train series) prepared, currently the train is in INKA. What is certain is that this KRL is more efficient, environmentally friendly, and has higher capacity," said Zulfikri.

Regarding tariffs, he said, it is likely to be the same as Prameks considering that KRL is replacing Prameks. "Tariffs and temporary facilities are still the same as Prameks, because this is replacing Prameks in nature. This is the first trial until the end of the year," he said.

Meanwhile, he said, trains which are currently still being operated as Prameks trains will be used to serve other routes. "We still need a lot, including for the airport train, we still need it," said Zulfikri.

According to him, the replacement of this transportation mode was carried out due to several factors. Among other things because of efficiency problems. In addition to more capacity, KRL is also considered to be more efficient in energy use so that it can reduce carbon emissions. ***
