Build 7,000 Kilometers of Railroad, Government Needs 65.6 Billion US Dollars

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian government targets to have 13,000 kilometers of railroads in 2030. Currently, there are only 6,000 kilometers of railroad in Indonesia. Head of Sub Directorate of Traffic, Directorate General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), Yudi Karyanto, said that to achieve this, at least 65.6 billion US dollars was needed. "So in total we need 65.595 billion US dollars, so we invite the audience here to invest in this development," Yudi said at the Indonesia Railway Conference 2019 in Jiexpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Wednesday (03/20/2019). Yudi explained, from the budget, a total of 30.065 billion US dollars would be used for the construction of an intercity railway along 9.210 kilometers and an urban railway of 3.755 km. The remaining 35.527 billion US dollars will be used for rolling stock purposes. Later, there will be 8 priority projects, namely the construction of three urban transports and five intercity transports. "The budget is 36 percent from the state budget, 64 percent from the private sector or BUMN," Yudi said.
